SKK Mobile GLIMPSE 3G Unboxing and Hands ON Review

SKK Mobile GLIMPSE 3G Unboxing includes GLIMPSE 3G handset, headset, microUSB cable, USB charger, manual and warranty certificate and handset box.

I'll be reviewing SKK Mobile's latest GLIMPSE 3G Android phone based on the following categories below.

What's my first impression? It's premium looking, smooth user interface (UI), compact, lightweight, approximately 9 mm slim and Huawei Ascend P6 "look-a-like".

1. Price: 4.8/5

SKK Mobile GLIMPSE 3G is one of the cheapest Android phone currently in the market today powered by dual core CPU, 512 MB RAM, Android 4.2 JB OS, 4 GB internal memory and 4.0" display specs combo.

With curved edge at the bottom along Menu, Home and Back soft capacitive buttons, Volume keys at the upper right side, call receiver at the upper part and front camera, a must have for those who are looking for stylish Android phone at affordable price.

GLIMPSE 3G back part houses for 2 regular SIM slot, microSD card slot, speaker, 3.5 mm audio jack port just above the speaker and beside micro-USB port, 2 MP rear camera and for 1400 Li-Ion battery. The back cover design and cosmetic is finely crafted making it an expensive looking Android gadget.

3. Display: 4.2/5

GLIMPSE 3G boost a 4-inches 800 x 480 pixels resolution display with 2 point multi-touchscreen. It is not IPS (In Plane Switching) by looking it at different angles and comparing it to an IPS Android phone. The display size is enough to enjoy games and multimedia and also take note, display is one of the most expensive part of smartphone so, don't expect too much.

9. Battery: 4.0/5

GLIMPSE 3G is fueled by 1400 mAh battery and powered by dual core Cortex-A7 power efficient CPU. How long do you think will it last when using it on WiFi and 3G? Below are my battery test, display brightness is set to 1/3 with 1 SIM card onboard.

Note: Results are all approximation and will vary at different settings and screen brightness.

Call (using headset): 25 hrs.
Texting (moderate): 17.5 hrs.
Internet on WiFi: 5.56 hrs.
Internet on 3G: 4.76 hrs
Watching Movie (1080p): 4.55 hrs
Games (Zombie Tsunami): 5 hrs.
FM Radio: 10 hrs.
Playing Music (.mp3): 10 hrs.

Charging Time: ~ 2 hrs.
Charger Specs:
Input: AC 100-240V, 50-60 Hz, 150 mA
Output: DC 5V, 650 mA

10. Durability: 4.6/5

GLIMPSE 3G body has a compact and solid build quality. There is a minimum gaps on the phone design either side by side and even on corners. Dust and dirt will be having a hard time getting inside your phone except on microphone, micro-USB and 3.5 mm audio jack port (which are open).

Since I removed the thin screen film that protects the display and for 2 weeks of usual usage, I don't see any light scratches as of now. To protect the display in the long run from daily bumps and accidental deep scratches of everyday life - you should buy it with screen protector.

Moreover, take extra measure when handling the unit to prevent it from dropping due to smooth surfaces. It comes with 1 year limited warranty.

Updated: (as of November 1, 2014)

After more than 8 months or 264 days, the OS and device are very stable as of now, some hang up and lags are encountered so far but already returned to normal. I'll keep you updated from time to time so, stay tuned.

11. Defects/Bugs and Improvement: 3.7/5

As I already said, OS (operating system) is very stable and these are the things that I noticed and need some improvements.

The micro-USB port is not properly fitted to the body or housing (I hope this is an isolated case) and sometimes the gallery cannot access the pictures/files on microSD card for a while (you have to wait for a minute or more, maybe due to large files).

Other improvements are upgrade of rear camera to 5 MP, CPU clocked up to 1.2 GHz, enable lights on capacitive buttons (Menu, Home, Back), a higher battery capacity of 1500 mAh and above and better charger.

12. Final Rating/Score: 4.35/5

I gave high scores to GLIMPSE 3G price, design and connectivity. Screen, camera and battery can be improved but I think it will come at a price.

Overall, SKK Mobile GLIMPSE 3G strong points are affordability, design and connectivity (WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G/HSPA+, GPS, WiFi Hotspot and FM Radio).

A must have gadget for consumers who are looking for entry level Android smartphone on the tight budget but still wants to enjoy texting, calling, fast internet, games and multimedia.

"Absolutely a value for money and stylish gadget that will enhanced your communication on your everyday task"
