PH to Buy 12 FA-50 Fighter Jets from S. Korea - Specs and Armaments

Philippines eyeing to purchase S.Korea's FA-50 Supersonic Fighter Jets

President Aquino and South Korean President Park Geun-hye witnessed the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two countries on defense cooperation during PNOY visit to S.Korea last October 2013.

Philippine government would purchase 12 FA-50 fighter jets (P18.976B allotted budget) as part of Armed Forces Modernization Plan, an additional air assets to Philippine Air Force (PAF).

FA-50 is a variant of KAI T-50 Golden Eagle - a family of South Korean supersonic advanced trainers and multirole light fighters developed by KAI (Korea Aerospace Industries) with Lockheed Martin.

FA-50 is a multirole jet fighter that replaces F-5E/F, originally named A-50 - a prototype from a converted T-50.

With purchase of 12 S. Korean FA-50's, I hope it will increase our air capability for military defense and offense in protecting our Philippine boundary.

Avionics: Embedded GPS/INS, UHF/VHF Radio, Integrated IFF,Radar Altimeter, Integrated Mission Computer, Store Management System, Data Transfer and Recording System and Tactical Data Link System.

Propulsion: High Trust with Afterburner F404-GE-102 and Dual-Channel Digital Electronic Control

Flight Control System: Fly by Wire Digital flight, Active Stick technology, Triple Redundant Electrical System, On-Board Oxygen Generation System (OBOGS), RWR/CMOS, Electrical Emergency Power Unit and Digital Break by Wire.

Armaments: AIM-9 Missile, MK-82, AGM-65, Internal 20mm Gun, SUU-20 and JDAM/SFW
